A Performance-Based Methodology for Designing Climate-Adaptive, Heat-Resilient Building Envelopes under Deep Uncertainty

Abtract

The seminar focuses on the interaction between urban heat islands, building electrification, heat rejection from cooling systems, and the transition from individual air-source systems toward district and fifth-generation cooling networks. Heiranipour also discuss how urban morphology and density constraints influence the feasibility and performance of sustainable cooling strategies based on Brussels European Quarter developments.

 

Biography

Milad Heiranipour holds a PhD from the Sustainable Development and Climate Change (SDC) program, jointly affiliated with IUSS Pavia, Politecnico di Torino, and the Institute for Renewable Energy at Eurac Research in Bolzano, Italy. He obtained his degree in Energy and Architecture from the Tehran University of Art. His research focuses on performance-based methodologies for heat-resilient and climate-adaptive building envelopes across urban, building, and system scales, with additional expertise in climate change, thermal resilience, building energy simulation, and sustainable architectural design.
